The unit CM stands for centimeters. The CM unit in CSS is an absolute unit that has an absolute value that can be used to determine the size of HTML elements. Although in building web-based applications this unit is rarely used, cm units can run well and are supported by almost all browsers. W3 (WWW Consortium) does not recommend cm units as display on screen devices, but rather recommends them as units for printing documents such as printers.
The value depends on the size of the DPI resolution. Conversion is based on the default DPI size of 96 DPI, but can be changed.
The CM unit is an intermediate unit and can be used without having to use decimal fractions. However, the use of decimal fractions is sometimes necessary when the values obtained are not as desired. In font size, the value of 1cm is equivalent to 37.7px. To get the default value for the standard font size of 16px, the unit value can be set at 0.42cm.
